  • Prof Alberico Catapano
    President of the Italian Society of Clinical and Experimental Therapy (SITeCS) and General Director of the SISA Foundation.
    Prof. Catapano has made landmark observations regarding the role of HSP’s and of Petranxins in Atherogenesis and on the role of HDL in the modulation of the immune response. Alberico Catapano is Full Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Milano, Director of the Laboratory for the study of Lipoproteins and Atherosclerosis and of the Center for the Study of Atherosclerosis of the Italian Society of Atherosclerosis (S.I.S.A.) at the “Bassini” Hospital. He is also the Director of Center of Epidemiology and Preventive Pharmacology of the University of Milano (SEFAP).
  • Prof Dirk Blom
    President Of International Atherosclerosis Society; Head, Division of Lipidology, University of Cape Town, South Africa
    Professor Blom leads the Lipid Clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital, one of Africa’s leading referral centers for severe and inherited lipid disorders. His research focuses on familial hypercholesterolemia, genetic dyslipidemias, lipoprotein metabolism, and emerging lipid-lowering therapies. He has contributed to major international clinical trials and cardiovascular prevention guidelines and has published extensively in leading journals including The Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, and Circulation.
  • Dr Michelle Winokur
    Executive Director of International Atherosclerosis Society
    Dr. Michelle Winokur is Executive Director of the International Atherosclerosis Society and President of MW Consulting & Evaluation. She has extensive experience in public health leadership, healthcare strategy, program evaluation, and health policy. Dr. Winokur holds a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and has dedicated her career to advancing cardiovascular prevention and population health initiatives.
  • Prof Jeanine Roeters van Lennep
    Chair of the Dutch Society of Vascular Medicine, chair of the HORIZONSCAN committee of the Dutch National Healthcare Institute 
    Jeanine Roeters van Lennep has been working as internist specialized in vascular medicine at the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands since 2010.
    She is head of the vascular medicine clinic specialized in hereditary dyslipidemia. She combines this research interest with gender-specific medicine.
    Her scientific research is dedicated to cardiovascular prevention, specifically diagnosis and treatment of Familial Hypercholesterolemia and sex-specific cardiovascular risk factors such as pre-eclampsia for which she obtained grants of e.g. the Dutch Heart Foundation and the Dutch Research Council.
  • Prof Rodrigo Alonso
    Centre for Advanced Metabolic Medicine and Nutrition, Santiago (Chile)
    Specialist in Internal Medicine from Universidad de Valparaiso, Chile. PhD in Medicine and Magister in Clinical Nutrition from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. Current position: Co-Director of the Center for Advanced Metabolic Medicine and Nutrition. From 1997 until June 2014, Dr Alonso worked at the Lipid Clinic, Internal Medicine Department at Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Madrid, Spain. Co-founder of the Spanish Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) Foundation in 1998. From 2014 to February 2020, Dr Alonso worked as staff and was Head of the Department of Nutrition at Clinica Las Condes, Santiago de Chile. During this period, he was the coordinator of the local registry for patients with Familial Hypercholesterolemia. National Leader for the European Atherosclerosis Society FH Study Collaboration. Membership of the Scientific Committee of Spanish FH Foundation; member at large IAS, President Chilean Atherosclerosis Corp; Board Iberoamerican FH network association.
  • Prof Claudio Borghi
    Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Bologna
    Professor of Medicine at the University of Bologna. Medical degree at the University of Bologna-Department of Cardiology and then at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology. Chief of the Department of Medicine of the Policlinico S.Orsola-Malpighi-Bologna. Past-President of the Italian Society of Hypertension. Head of the post-graduate medical school on Emergency Medicine. Scientific coordinator of the PhD program on Health and Technology of the University of Bologna. Member of the Executive Council of the International Society of Hypertension, European Society of Hypertension, ESC Working Group on Cardiovascular Therapeutics, Writing committee for the ESC Guidelines. Author and co-author of over 490 peer-review scientific publications and many other scientific contributions (manuscripts, book chapters, monographies, e-books) in the field of hypertension, CV risk factors and drug treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Prof Ulrich Laufs
    Chair and Professor of Cardiology at Leipzig University, Germany
    After completing his training at the University of Hamburg, he served a residency at the University of Cologne and spent 2 years as post-doctoral researcher at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA. Before moving to Leipzig in 2017, he was Vice-chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Medicine at the University of Saarland in Homburg, Germany. Professor Laufs has published multiple experimental and clinical studies in the areas of ‘heart failure’, ‘heart and brain’ and ‘prevention’ with special interest in lipoprotein metabolism. He has received numerous honours, serves in several editorial boards of international cardiovascular journals and holds positions in cardiovascular societies.
  • Prof Christina Bursill
    Associate Professor at South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, Adelaide (Australia)
    Prof Christina Bursill (BSc (Hons 1) PhD, Adelaide University; Postdoc, Oxford University, UK) is a leader in cardiovascular biology for her expertise in the biology and mechanisms of atherosclerotic plaques, the fatty deposits in the blood vessels of the heart that cause heart attacks.Prof Bursill also has expertise in the mechanisms of angiogenesis, the process of new blood vessel formation that is critical for tissue repair following a heart attack and also for wound healing that is impaired in diabetes.She is Director of the Vascular Research Centre at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and Adelaide University and has held two National Heart Foundation (NHF) Fellowships. As CIA she has received >$5.7 million in competitive national research funding in the last 5 years. Prof Bursill has published >120 manuscripts, supervised >18 PhD students to completion and currently leads a research team of ten people.Prof Bursill is Chair the South Australian Cardiovascular Research network which seeks to bring together cardiovascular researchers from across South Australia to foster collaboration and drive research excellence and advocacy.She is currently a Board member of the International Atherosclerosis Society and has held positions in the leading cardiovascular bodies nationally including an elected board member (Treasurer) for the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance (ACvA) and is past-President of the Australian Atherosclerosis Society.
